So, first I would like to apologise for subjecting you all to this book. It was just awful, here's why:
Spoiler:
It was so amateur it was almost embarrassing. It felt like the author was trying a little too hard and the ending was a bit rushed and didn't really fit. The stink of sequel is in the air....
For me, too much attention was paid to violence and not enough to the story. It was kind of like 'all thse people die horribly, the good guy is actually the uber bad guy, and oh yeah, at the end you find out it's all to do with vampires and some book'.
Its a real pity, because a lot more could have been done with whole book with no name/blood of Christ thing. Exploring the history of the book more would have given the story more depth and substance and made it much more intersting. Without it this story is superficial and doesn't require any brain power at all. I'm disappointed to be honest.
Please don't throw me out...I'm really sorry _________________ Currently reading: Man in the Dark by Paul Auster

This is getting interesting is it brilliant or is it awful! I am resisting the temptation to read the spoiler so I can form my own opinion but looking forward to at least trying this one. But I must finish the Historian first and I have Wicked to read -need more time to read books.

Hmm it sounds interesting and I will be getting round to reading this one I've just swapped with Nicnic. I might have to suspend Middlemarch to read it before the end of August.

I've just collected this book from the library today and should start reading it tomorrow. It's interesting the complete divide of opinion on this one and I've not read the spoiler, so as not to cloud my own judgement.
I'll report back in a few days or so once I've read it... _________________ Currently Reading:

I'm half way through at the moment and just had to post.
So far I'm....... loving it!!
Not something I'd normally pick up but am finding it intense, slightly weird, intriguing and a fabulous thriller. I'm just hoping it'll stay the same and not dissappoint as I get closer to the end.
I'll let you know my final thoughts when I've finished it in a couple of days. _________________ Currently Reading:

Well I've finished the book now and my overall rating is 4 stars.
Spoiler:
I do agree with nicnic that the ending was a bit rushed, although if there is a sequel I would be interested to read it. I would have liked to have seen more made of the actual Book WIth No Name and the history behind it all, so perhaps that does pave the way for the next book!
The killings are very gruesome, but I did feel that the author didn't go into overdrive with their descriptions. With a book like this I don't think you can gloss over the brutality and it is key to the plot.
It's a shame Jenson didn't make it to the end, I liked his character and would have liked to see him survive.
Part of the description on the back of this book said Tarrentino meets The Da Vinci Code and I have to agree with that.
Thanks to everyone who voted for this book, if it hadn't come up as the book of the month here, I definitely wouldn't have ever read this one. _________________ Currently Reading:

I agree with nicnic! I couldn't post on the poll though because I seem to have said I wasn't going to read it and then I changed my mind but my poll answer would be I loathed it!!
Actually I couldn't even read it all it was so awful. I read about 100 pages and then a bit about vampires came up and I thought Uh oh! It was like reading a comic book but without the pictures. It might have been better written as a graphic novel in my opinion. The characters were completely interchangeable and it seemed to be a random catalogue of killings by various 'sonovabitchs'. It was like a computer game in written form.
So yes I had to abandon it half way through. I skipped around after that and caught the gist of it all but I'm not going near this one again!

I am glad I read this - it is not something I would normally pick up and read at all. I gave it 4 stars.
Spoiler:
I enjoyed reading this book. It was too gruesome in parts for me, as I am incredibly squeamish, but without the violence it wouldn't have made much sense. I agree that too little was made of the "book with no name", and that the ending was rushed as if the author had run out of time. At the start I found the style very "amateurish" but noticed this less as I read on. I hope that there is no sequel, as I think that it would be better as a stand alone book. If there is a sequel, it is very unlikely that I will read it.

Wow everyone's opinions are really divided on this one - it seems you either love it or hate it. I nearly bought it over the weekend but started to read it and it didn't appeal, but now I've read this thread (but not the spoilers) I want to read it! Does anyone have a copy I can swap? _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

Well, I'm totally with Charlie on this one! 100 pages was my max I'm afraid! _________________ Currently reading: The Tent The Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy and Granny The Pag by Nina Bawden

I actually enjoyed this one, gave it four stars. It was a bit of fun, not intended to be serious literature and definitely one for Tarantino lovers with a melange of many other films thrown in. it has been on the mobile library on RiSi and I think it's gone down fairly well - I think there were references to 15 different films in the book, (according to some website, not me...I'm not that anal to write down all the names of the films as I read, words I don't know, yes, guilty of that!!) I love Tarantino films, the old spaghetti westerns and enjoyed the Da Vinci Code so I guess it was destined to be entertaining for me. I do enjoy the odd bit of "pulp fiction" in the midst of my more "serious" reads.
Apparently there is a lot of speculation as to who the author might be, perhaps someone famous but I, personally, think it's written by someone who loves those kind of films and has obviously made quite a tidy sum from writing it. Any other conspiracy theories??
