Hi everyone

The Food Of Love is one of this month's Babbling Books - Book of the Month.
Anthony has also written; The Wedding Officer (which I really enjoyed too)
His next novel, The Various Flavours of Coffee will be published in November 2008.
I really hope everyone can make this event - for anyone who cant make the date and has questions for Anthony - please PM your questions to me and I will make sure he gets them.

Hi Anthony and welcome to BB
Thank you for taking the time to chat to us.
Whilst reading The Food of Love I couldn't help but think it'd translate well to film. Are there plans for it to be made into a film at all? I hope so _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

I really enjoyed The Food of Love ,especially the descriptions of the wonderful food. Where did you get the inspiration for the recipes and are you a good cook? |

Welcome Anthony - thanks for agreeing to chat to us.
I have a message from Patricia who may not be able to join us tonight:
I will try and be available at 7 pm on 9 July for on-line chat with Anthony Capella, but as I live in Italy it will be 8pm and time for supper!
I wanted to know more about Anthony's Italian background and if his love of food is based entirely on this. I am of Italian origin but was born and brought up in London. And obviously my love of food is definitely influenced by my family background. I now live in the Apennine hills of Emilia Romagna and the simple country food here is wonderful.
Regarding the novel, I loved its originality but maybe there were a few too many culinary details. Plus I found it hard to believe an American girl would be such a foodie. Finally, the email format at the end was quite unexpected. However I am planning to test the saltimbocca recipe this Sunday!
ciao

HI and welcome
Do you set a certain amount of time aside each day for writing, or write when the mood takes you?
OH and I am going to be greedy and ask another one...hehehe...similar topic...
When you get stuck on an idea...(if you get stuck on an idea) what tricks do you employ to get past it?
Look forward to 'hearing' your replies. |

Apologies for being a little late - my first attempt at logging on here got me locked out for thrirty minutes after five failed attempts. You must have a very strict IT program somewhere running all this.
I'm not used to the thread format, either, so do tell me if there are better ways of doing this as I go along.
I'll try to answer the questions below one by one.... and thanks for having me!

I am also having problems Anthony, that seems really informal, tell me off if you like.
I think my problems are to do with internet connection though so will have to restart modem etc and will disappear...
Final question from me though before I disappear, and bore you all with my rambling...
The character Bruno, was he based on or inspired by someone you know? |

Hi Glynis,
The Food of Love was optioned as a film by Warner - but the same company bought 'Mostly Martha', a german film about a chef, and had to decide which to go with. Catherine Zeta Jones said if they (re)made MM she'd be in it, so that swung it Martha's way... the result was 'No Resevations', a complete turkey. As a result of that movie everyone in Holywood believes you can't make a successful movie about food. But look, I don't really care - I got some money, and I wrote the book I wanted to write.
Funnily enough FOL started life as a screeenplay... it was only wheni realsied that, being set in Italy and thus in Italian, it wasn't very commercial, that I took the decision to write it as a book.
Will it ever be a movie? I don't know. Hollywood is a strange place. |

Hi Anthony and thanks for joining us this evening.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Food of Love when I read it a month or so ago. Do you believe that food has the impact on people that we see in this book? Or is there a certain amount of poetic license?! I loved all the food descriptions throughout the novel!
Does food feature as highly in your other novel / work in progress? _________________ Currently Reading:

Ok, let's see if I'm getting the hang of this.....
Really, it was just research. I love food, but I'm a terrible cook. That is, I love to cook but I'm very bad at following recipes. As Bruno might say, I'm a bad pianist but a modearte composer.... if that makes sense. |

I'm glad you finally got logged in Anthony - welcome!
This may sound a bit cheeky but I think Food of Love could be considered a woman's book - the theme of love and food etc.
What sort of reaction do you get from fans? When you do signings, is the majority of people there female? _________________ Currently reading: The Tent The Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy and Granny The Pag by Nina Bawden

Ah, well there's my secret - I'm not really Italian at all. I know my name saounds it but I'm British as far back as I can trace (hence, i guess, the single p, which in Italian is a miss-spelling. I'm just an Italiophile.... but I like to think it's someehere in my DNA...... |

Finding time is just the hardest thing. I have a family, and I write screenplays and journalism and other stuff - partly for the regular money and partly because I enjoy it. For many years I wrote Sainsbury's ads for Jamie Oliver (The Wedding Officer was inspired by a trip to Naples to make an ad about pasta!) |

Usually I rewrite, or at least re-read - that way at least I'm doing something useful. I rewrite my books a lot, I think - twenty or thirty light rewrites and six or seven big rewrites is not uncommon...... |

Do you read many novels yourself? Who are your favourite authors?
The Jamie Oliver connection sounds fun, did you meet him - and,did he cook for you?
