Oooh I love all these book related films that are being released.

Is anyone going to see Becoming Jane? Would love to see that (and Notes on a Scandal, Perfume, Miss Potter, Memoirs of a Geisha and others I've forgotten )

I am a bit weary of seeing the film of a book. I am often disappointed with the film because they differ such a lot form the book. Chocolat and Captain Corellis Mandolin has me shouting at the screen , that's not right, that's not what happened, read the book before you make the film etc. Fortunately I was watching a DVD at home at the time.

Having said that I would like to see Perfume to see how they have handled it, but will probably have to wait for the DVD.

I thought becoming Jane was about Jane Austen's life in general. Is it about one of her books then?

I should read the blurb more carefully!!

I need to learn to spell I have put weary when I meant wary (but I am weary this morning).

Not sure about Becoming Jane, I haven't seen the book, so don't know what it is about.

I haven't seen Miss Potter yet but from I have heard it is Hollywood's interpretation of her life and not strictly accurate. But I suppose they have to make it as interesting as possible to recoup the money they put in to it.

Yes I can imagine the film's nothing like Beatrix Potter's life!

I definitely want to see Becoming Jane, as I love Jane Austen's books.

ITV is also doing a Jane Austen series soon - with new versions of Persuasion (my favourite Jane Austen book), Northanger Abbey and Mansfield Park. I think they are also showing Emma, but it is not a new version. I will definitely be recording those!

I'm not sure exactly when the Jane Austen season starts, but I have seen it advertised, so it must be pretty soon.

Hanging my head in shame, I've never read a Jane Austin book. I did want to visit the Jane Austin center when we were in Bath a couple of years ago but sadly we were pushed for time so didn't go.

Which book would be a good place to start reading her novels?

Did you Jane Austin fans know you can buy on line from the Jane Austin centre shop?

There's quite a few JA items including a carrier bag, mugs and Jane Austin ink!

Thanks for the link Blueflower - I'm sure I will be spending some money there

I would recommend Persuasion as a great book to read - but I am biased because it is my favourite! Northanger Abbey is also a great read. Personally I would go with one of those two, as they are not too long either.

I haven't read any Austen either, but plan to do so when I finish GWTW!

I read Sense and Sensibility as a teenager and just found it boring, I think I must have missed the point. However, I have since read and loved all the Bronte books so am sure if I tried again I would enjoy Jane Austen.

Won't get one read before the TV versions now but definitely intend to try one soon (but this strange 1001 challenge is dominating my book choices at the mo!!!)

Did anyone see Becoming Jane in the end? I had the dvd sent to me in error - it was not on my list, not a particular Jane Austin fan and so was never inclined to see it. Had a pile of shirts to iron on Sunday so decided to stick it in while I did them. Not really impressed, seemed to be mainly a rehash of Pride and Prejudice to me (and I am speaking of the dramatizations here, I have never read any Jane Austin!).

No I haven't seen it but I did notice it on a film channel on Sky recently but didn't get to watch it.
