'Small Island' by Andrea Levy - finished - loved it.
'The Book Thief' by Marcus Zusack - I started this last year, and have just got round to finishing it! It is a brilliant read btw all about the power of words - for good or otherwise.
Mister Pip - finished - really enjoyed this one too!
Marley and Me by john Grogan - I enjoyed this light-hearted, quick read!
Not sure what to read next tho! _________________ Currently reading: The Human Stain by Philip Roth

Chocolat is cool Read it years ago and remember how it made me feel lovely and gooey inside. Definitely one to re-read.
Now I really want to read this Mr Pip - nothing but glowing reports _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

The film is rather different to the book. In the book I think it is the priest who is against the chocolate shop but in the film it is the mayor, which I think spoiled it but maybe the films makers didn't what to upset the catholic church! But the film is worth watching as it has Johnny Depp in it but that may not be of interest to you.
You must read The Lollipop Shoes which carries on the story and is just as good if not better.
I am on Chapter 7 of Jane Eyre and getting quite annoyed about Mr Brockhursts double standards. |

I might have to read Chocolat again to refresh my memory and then The Lollipop Shoes as have heard all good things about it. When a few of us on here like a book, it makes me want to read it.
Hope you enjoy the film Sparky. _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

I've just not had that much to do recently, normally it's only round a book a week or so. _________________ The big sea does not care which way the little fishes swim |

Phew, that sounds better (more like what I can manage I mean, of course!) In a good month or if lots of them are short I manage 6-7 but more often it's 4-5!
I assume since you've read more than one you enjoyed the Lemony Snickett ones, we have the first one which I keep trying to interest my son in, but at the moment he has got into Harry Potter and is half way through number 2 so I may have a wait!! |

I love the Lemony Snickets, they appeal to my rather bizarre sense of humour. He's also got a really strange writing style, he goes of on complete tangents as well .I'ld say if you wanted to intrest your son in them, you might be better off trying the second one 'The Reptile Room'. There are a couple of references adult might like as well, my personal favourite is the Virginian Wolfsnake, which you must never let near a typewriter.
I'm slightly scared, the disc drive on my laptop is making perculiar noises... _________________ The big sea does not care which way the little fishes swim |

have been a bit slower this month....savouring the books....
So far,
The Mermaid Chair - Sue Monk Kidd (even better than the bee one.. and if you didn't like the bee one you may very well like this one!)
Notes from an Exhibtion - Patrick Gale - beautifully written, madness, family troubles, reminded me of a more lyrical Spot of Bother (Haddon) _________________ Currently reading - The Italian Boy - Murder and Grave Robbery in 1830s London - Sarah Wise |

So far this month I have read About A Boy, by Nick Horny (great, but very different from the film), and Above Suspicion by Lynda La Plante (very good). Am about halfway through The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, by Ben Sherwood. So far, I am enjoying it very much, but I think I might have guessed the ending
