Six books in 7 days I would love to be able to do that. I have Wolf Hall from the library which is huge and I have just got notification that another book I requested - The solitude of prime numbers -is waiting for collection. I am feeling slightly pressured! |

Revolutionary Road- Richard Yates- Found this very depressing! But I did appreciate that it was well written.
Jelleymans Thrown a Wobbley- Jeff Stelling-didn't enjoy this as much as I hoped-wanted more about Jeff, rather than the other presenters off Soccer Saturday
Hope for the Flowers-Beautiful. I gace this to a friend who is going through a tough time and she loved it too. The illustrations really compliment it.
Round Ireland with a fridge- Tony Hawks- I couldn't quite get into this enough to be motivated to pick it up regularly, but it was entertaining-men do teh strangest things!!!
Eat, Pray , Love- Elizabeth Gilbert- still not quite finished this as I left it with my Mum by accident-doh!
Frank Skinner on the Road- Frank Skinner-enjoyed this about the comeback of Frank Skinner. I found his first autobiography very amusing and this was a good follow up.
Disconnected- Sherry Ashworth- interesting teen book in thr form of letters to various people. Made me very glad I am no longer a teen rebelling against people who are ultimately doing their best for me!
Lucia, Lucia- Adriana Trigiani- Beautiful. I love books set in the 1950's anyway, and this is no exception.
Eclipse- Stefanie Meyer- I had started this ages ago and got distracted so restarted it and read it cover to cover in 2 days! _________________ Katey

I've just finished Knit Two: A Friday Night Knitting Club Novel ~ Kate Jacobs. I really enjoyed the sequel and following the girls into a new phase of their lives and it involves Italy, so always a winner for me! A good easy read. 3.5/5. _________________ handmade by Laura Croxson |

In July I read....
The Semi-Attached Couple and The Semi-Detached House by Emily Eden (lovely books! similar to Jane Austen although not quite as sharp but just as amusing)
The Lost Book of Salem by Katherine Howe (not great)
The Country of the Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett (love love love it!)
Prisoners by Mary Cholmondeley (great!)
Jane's Fame: How Jane Austen Conquered the World by Claire Harman (excellent history of Jane Austen mania)
Henrietta's War by Joyce Dennys (very funny)
Typhoid Mary by Anthony Bourdain (awful)
The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff (good read)
Scouring Angel: The Black Death in the British Isles by Benedict Gummer (brilliant history)
Britannia Mews by Margery Sharp (my first Margery Sharp and it was great)
overall a pretty good month! |

Juy has not been a good month for me reading-wise.
I managed a few more pages of Burning Bright, that I had started for June's book read..... and that is it! I'm hoping to finish it this week and then get back into my reading again. _________________ Currently Reading:

Okay, this is what I read this month, with comments:
Sovereign – C J Sansom - 8/10 Enjoyed the third in this series, probably more than the second. Only one to go now.
Eat, Pray, Love – Elizabeth Gilbert 6/10 This turned out to be autobiographical when I was expecting fiction so I was slightly wrong footed from the start. However, I usually love biography and I did enjoy the first part of this. However, being not a particularly spiritual person myself I found parts of it hard to identify with, and, as with so much american stuff, I found the author quite self centred. That said, it was an ok read.
Of Mice and Men – John Steinbeck (1001) 9/10 I found this on my sister-in-law's bookshelf and decided to read it while away since it was one of this months reads. I loved it, a simple tale of prejudice with well drawn characters. Unfortunately, as I'd seen the film at school many years ago I knew the ending which took away from it slightly, as I don't think I'd have guessed otherwise. Still, a wonderful book that seems strangely ageless.
World Without End – Ken Follett 10/10 What can I say? A fantastic book, but then I knew it would be having read Pillars of the Earth to which it is the sequel. Follett really knows how to put together a rich, complex story with credible characters and that holds your interest. I've actually got a bit to go but I'm at work tonight so I should finish it today and it's a large chunk of my July reading! |

I've really up my reading this month. Mainly I think because all of the books I read have been from the Library I have time limits!
The Hungry Ghosts -Anne Berry 8/10 -review elsewhere
The Lace Reader – a few chapters 1/10 = just could get into this.
Wolf Hall Hilary Mantel (650 pages) 9/10
Fantastic book about Thomas Cromwell's rise to Henry VIII's right hand man. I haven't finished but need to get it back to library on Sunday so will have to get a move on. I believe there is a follow up on the way. |

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Stop Cafe - Fannie Flag
Excellent book - I don't know why it too me so long to get round to reading it. 10/10
Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian - Marina Lewycka
Yet another excellent read, very funny. If you have not read this one I'd recommend it as a holiday read. Great fun, with some sad and very poignant observations of the human spirit.
again 10/10 _________________ ****************************
