Read The Almost Moon this week - that was my commuting read. At home I've been reading The Oxford Book of English Love Stories. Enjoyed them both.
Next on my list are The Other as a commuting read and as part of my new year's resolution to read more non fiction I have an old copy of Colin Thubron's book about travelling in Siberia. I've had it years and never got more than half way - maybe this time. Or maybe I'll list it on risi!! |

My March reads:
The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent - I was really disappointed by this, I'd looked forward to it for a while. All I can say is that I was bored - it was far too slow for me.
The Italian Quarter by Domenica DeRosa - this was a lovely read, about an American-Italian family, really enjoyed this.
The Great Plague by Pamela Oldfield - this is another from the Scholastic 'My Story' series that I have been collecting. Aimed at teaching events of history to young people through a fictional diary of a young person from that era. I've really enjoyed this series so far.
A Dark Dividing by Sarah Rayne - an excellent thriller, the first I read by this author, but have a couple more of hers on TBR. Dual narrative around conjoined twins - fantastic read.
Unstolen by Wendy Jean - a novel narrated by the sister of a boy who was abducted. How his abduction affected her family and her complete childhood. Very good read.
Playing With The Moon by Eliza Graham - I really enjoyed this story of a couple struggling to save their marriage after a devastating event.
The Cave by Kate Mosse - one of the Quick Reads series for 2009 World Book Day. The story was OK, Kate Mosse excels at dual time historical novels, but this was just too short to do her justice.
The Attack by Yasmina Khadra - an absolutely wonderful read, really opens your eyes to the situation in Isreal and the reasons why people decide to become suicide bombers. Excellent.
In My Sister's Shoes by Sinead Moriarty - really didnt enjoy this - and I'd really liked her previous series of books. Bad plotline and hateful characters.
How To Live With A Neurotic Cat by Stephen Baker - Annie gave this to me at the Belfast as her book that made her laugh. And laugh I did. Any cat owner will enjoy this.
Over by Margaret Forster - a beautifully written novel about grief and people left behind.
The Last of the Name by Charles McGlinchey - this is a collection of stories narrated by an old man who lived in Donegal in the late 1800s - fascinating stuff.
There Were Three of Us in the Relationship by Margaret Anne Macleod - to review for NewBooks Magazine. A collection of previously unpublished letters to and from Marie Antoinette. I wasnt impressed by how this book was put together at all.
Big Cherry Holler by Adriana Trigiani - I read the first of this series 6 years ago but still remembered the characters quite well. I loved this follow up, much better than the first - a great cast of characters.
The Personal History of Rachel DuPree by Ann Weisganber - on the Orange Prize for Fiction longlist and well deserved. A fabulous story of Rachel and her family starting a new life in the Badlands of Nevada. Anyone who enjoys Toni Morrison or Alice Walker will love this.
Blackmoor by Edward Hogan - a bleak, sparse story set in the mining community on the border of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Explores life during and after the miners strike and also the effect of mental illness on a family. Excellently written.
Holly's Inbox by Holly Denham - I dipped in and out of this and enjoyed it far more than I expected. Cleverly written and funny _________________ Currently reading: The Tent The Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy and Granny The Pag by Nina Bawden

The End of Mr Y rather a weird story, but I did quite enjoy it.
Tender is the Night very disappointing.
The Book Thief a childrens book, but still a good read.
The Friday Night Knitting Club not the usual chic lit, enjoyed this.
Have also been reading The Discovery of Heaven for a couple of weeks now but only about a quarter of the way through. Quite enjoying it at the moment. |

I've not been reading very much over the last few weeks. I seem to have had alot going on along with not been feeling very well.
I've been trying to keep up with Gone with the Wind for the readalong, and I read 3 non fiction books:
Imperfectly Natural Home - Janey Lee Grace
Imperfectly Natural Woman pocket book - Janey Lee Grace
Eating - Peter Singer and Jim Mason
So basically I've been terrifying myself with what chemicals are in my home and body along with what nasties are involved with what I eat!
