Yay me, I have already read 2 so far this year! Ok, so one of them was a short story but its still one to be crossed off the list
1. The Yellow Wallpaper - Charlotte Purkins Gilman
and 2. Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
Brave New World is a definite keeper for me, I thought it was fascinating and very thought provoking.

My current read, The Woman in White; Wilkie Collins is in the 1,001.
I'm also aiming to do a TBR challenge this year- list 12 books that have been on your shelves the longest, quite a few of these (7) are in the 1,001 :
- Everything is illuminated, Jonathan Safran Foer
- Steppenwolf, Herman Hesse
- Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, Robert M Pirsig
- The Story of Lucy Gault, William Trevor
- Elizabeth Costello, J M Coetzee
- Tintin & the secret of literature
- First Love, Ivan Turgenev
- Fingersmith, Sarah Waters
- The Tenderness of Wolves, Stef Penney
- What I loved, Siri Hustvedt
- Atonement, Ian McEwan
- Red Azalea, Anchee Min _________________ Current reading: The Last Temptation, Val McDermid ~ 40 @2009

Yes, I really like the idea of this challenge as it seems really managable- a book a month! - obv. I hope to read a lot more than 12 books this year, but it frees me up to also read as many of the monthly choices on here that I want to as well, or anything else that takes my fancy x _________________ Current reading: The Last Temptation, Val McDermid ~ 40 @2009

I read a grand total of 3 1001 books in 2008
However have made a good start for this year. Have read:
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson
and am currently reading: Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre.
I loved Miss Pettigrew - such good fun and I'd love her to sort out my life for me!! I'm loving VGL - it's so good and think it'd make an excellent book of the month choice. _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

I've finished my first challenge book for this year, Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. It was an interesting story but I found it a long and hard slog to get through it. _________________ Currently Reading:
