So far here are the books which glare at me each time I add a new one (or more) to the collection!
The Testament of Gideon Mack by James Robertson
A Prayer for Owen Meany John Irving
Mao The Unknown Story by Jung Chang
Notes from Underground by Dostoevsky
The Bell by Isis Murdoch
Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
Suite Francais by Irene Nemirovsky
The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway
The Songlines by Bruce Chatwin
Gigi and The Cat by Colette
Crome Yellow by Aldous Huxley
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner
The Snack Thief by Andrea Camilleri
The Terracotta Dog by Andrea Camilleri
The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
Erewhon by Samuel Butler
The Plague by Albert Camus
The problem is - I have recently put an order for a couple of fiction collections and I ended up with 13 books for the total price of £14.98 - who in the world could refuse?! Er...well I know I should have but never mind!!!!! There are loads more by the way so will update list soon!

It's funny you should say that about owen meany, Glynis. I tried reading it about 2 yrs ago and never finished it...it's still there though and I can't remember hating it so will give it another go . I'm halfway through Fear and Loathing and so far I love it! It's so funny, but I'm not sure if I would get the craziness of it if I hadn't seen the film.
How fantastic that you got a signed copy! _________________ Reading: The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho

Perhaps we should nominate it as a BB book of the month and give it another go? _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

I have Prayer for Owen Meany on TBR and am trying to get to it so would vote for it as a BB read, great idea.
Lots of people really rate it so I'm not sure why I've never got there! Must try harder! |

I received my copy of Veronika Decides...and after I've tutored my student tonight I'm going to settle down with a cuppa after a long day! Looking forward to it! I think it's on the 1001 list but not sure, I hope it is! I told a colleague at work about the list and he was pleasantly surprised to find that he had read 30.
I also lent him Notes From Underground and so far he loves it! Perhaps I just didn't get it?!!!
I put Owen Meany down as a suggestion for the June book so maybe we'll all get round to it!

I've just finished Veronika Decides to Die and earlier in the week I finished Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I will get through this list of books if it's the last thing I do . Normally I'm not remotely disciplined with what I buy and actually read but now I have a list I have to stick to it !
The tricky thing is now ... what's it going to be next?! _________________ Reading: The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho

hey eightlegs! I've opted for Suite Francaise, I've heard wonderful things about it and it's been on my shelf for a couple of months. Unfortunately its not on the 1001 list but it sounds great! Looking forward to next months books as well there are some great picks! _________________ Reading: The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho

I've very nearly finished The Godfather - which is one of my favourite movies . I didn't realise that the novel would combine bit of the first and second movies. There are a couple of characters who are expolored more deeply in the novel who don't have major roles in the film - it's good to learn a bit more about them.
Next will be The Book of Lost Things which I've heard is great. I'm looking forward to it! _________________ Reading: The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho

Haven't read any of these but I almost bought Anna Karenina from a charity shop yesterday. I got War and Peace a few weeks ago and it looks quite daunting sat on the shelf. _________________ Currently reading: Adept
