Discuss here your thoughts on the book once you have read it. Did you (not) enjoy it? Anything that struck you or maybe someone else could help if you have a question? We're not really looking for in depth discussions... just tell us what you think of it!

For those who have read the book, please choose a star rating based on how much you liked it.

If you do have something to post that may ruin the plot for others, please remember to use the spoiler function (Details: http://risibookclub.myfreeforum.org/ftopic12.php )

It's a good while since I read this now, but I really enjoyed it.  I loved the way each chapter or section gave details of the books that the group were reading.  It did inspire me to read some of them, although I didn't really enjoy the ones I tried (Heartburn, The Memory Box, The Alchemist).

I love Elizabeth Noble's work.  She manages to write heart-warming stories without being sickly sweet or too twee.

I read this a while back too and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have also read The Tenko Club by Noble and was a bit disappointed, but I think I expected too much after loving The Reading Group.

Light but well worthwhile IMO

I enjoyed this one too but it was the book theme which swung it for me.  I was tempted to read some of books they read too, Nicx, but am perhaps glad I didn't, judging by your experience!  I think I still have The Memory Box TBR.
BTW, hello, good to see you here.

I read this a few years ago and really enjoyed it, I have also enjoyed her other books too.  They are fairly easy to read but not quite as frothy as a lot of other chick lit and they tend to focus around friendships/relationships which I enjoy.

Hi Treez  Don't be put off by my experiences - you might like The Memory box.

Eightlegs, I really liked The Tenko Club, in fact I just like this author.

Finished this this evening and have debated what to rate it. 3 stars seems too many and 2 not enough but I decided to be generous and ultimately gave it 3 stars.

Spoiler:

I thought it was just okay.  I found the book club aspect, which was the main draw for picking up the book, a bit disappointing and had hoped for more in that respect.  There was really very little in the narrative to do with the books that headed up each chapter and so very little to inspire picking them up. Interestingly, considering the small amount of content relating to these books, there still managed to be one or two plot spoilers in there!

I also thought that the group was a bit small? It started out with 5 members but very quickly Clare dropped out and 4 members seemed very small.  I thought Clare would have been a good character to keep in and she seemed very under developed and hastily wrapped up towards the end.

I was expecting a bit more humour too. The only time I laughed was when Nicole threatened to put a Salman Rushdie down as her next choice right at the end!

I've just finished this one and have to say that I quite liked it! It was a light and easy read, without being too "chick lit-y" if that makes sense?! I liked the way the author showed the book group's discussion around each months book choice, although it is a shame about some of the spoilers as there are books I haven't read that I'd like to that she mentioned and she gave away a key plot moment in GWTW that I haven't got to yet in our read-along that I was upset about.

I wasn't sure about this one but now I'm pleased to have read it, I gave it 4 stars for an enjoyable read.
