For those that are new to the site and not quite sure how things work, hopefully this thread will explain. If you do have any questions though please contact ShropshireBlue or Sirg1006 and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!
Choosing Books:
We like to keep members as involved as possible in the site - no point admin choosing what they want to read all the time - so you will find just after the beginning of the month, an announcement is made asking for book suggestions. You can suggest any book you want and just send Sirg1006 the title and the author of the book.
These can be books you've read and find would make a good discussion, a book you have to be read that you think sounds interesting or a book you've always wanted to read.
Once all the suggestions are collected (there is a date supplied on the announcement that they've to be in by), they are put into polls so members can vote for the one they'd like to read - even if you chose one but like the sound of another, you can vote for that.
Why are there two polls?
When the site began we found there were members who may not have liked the book that was to be read so they felt left out if they didn't choose to read it and join in with discussions. There is a book chosen from each poll which gives members a wider choice of books to choose from and hopefully more chance of finding one they'd like to read.
It is interesting though when you read a book you may not necessarily have chosen to read so the reading group can introduce you to books you wouldn't have picked up in the past. We do like finding out both opinions of books - some can love a book and some can hate it so it's good to find out why.
You don't have to read both books if you don't want to... if you do fancy them, you could read one or the other and if you don't have the time or don't fancy them then you don't have to join in that month.
When to join in with discussions?
Unlike a face-to-face group, the forum is available 24/7 so we don't really have a discussion date for everyone to meet. You can join in as soon as you finish the book and write down your thoughts and feelings whenever you want - some like to do it straight away so they don't forget the main points. Although we do change books on a monthly basis, the past book discussions are always available for you to join in with so you don't need to feel pressured into reading the book discussed that month.
The books change on the 1st of the month but the polls will have decided the upcoming books a week or so in advance. This gives everyone just over a month if you haven't read the book or even have one available to get a hold of it and read it.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

We'll announce the book choices here on BB. We also mail everyone the details each month.
Hope that helps

I joined babbling books today, and was pleased to see several books in the "Previous Books Discussed" forum that I have read, and could post comments on.
I am disappointed to note that, although possible, discussion does not seem to have been continued after the month for which a book is chosen .
I guess people are just too busy keeping up with the current books
I've added to a couple, anyway _________________ Talk about books - any books - at http://www.bookgrouponline.com/forum/index.html? |

New posts in that section don't show up for me either. However I did read your thoughts on Kevin, megustaleer, as I saw your username in the 'last post by' bit alongside that section. _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

Ooh messages posted in 'previous discussions' are showing up for me now. I'm really pleased about this as shouldn't miss any messages there now.
