I really enjoyed this, even if I couldn't see Emma Thompson's character with Hugh Grant's (much more convincing in the BBC's version). Thought Kate Winslet and Alan Rickman were grand in the film and you could see a contrast between the sisters, Sense and Sensibility. You could see how the mother and Marianne were alike in showing their emotions. It was a lot rosier than the recent BBC adaptation - the cottage and setting seemed much bleaker in that, but you definitely get the impression that it's not what they're used to. Loved the actresses who played Fanny and the mother too. I can't help comparing it to the BBC's version. I liked both and they're so different from one another. The film strayed from the book, whereas the BBC adaptation didn't at all, but then it had an extra hour to play with. And some characters were played with more conviction in the film - Marianne and the mother definitely. _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

I quite enjoy watching this version, but like you Glynis I found the paring of Thompson and Grant odd. I just felt that they lacked chemistry together, and found the paring in the latest version to be so much more believable. I like both versions but feel that the latest ones has the edge over this one. Lisa x
