Discuss here your thoughts on the book once you have read it. Did you (not) enjoy it? Anything that struck you or maybe someone else could help if you have a question? We're not really looking for in depth discussions... just tell us what you think of it!

For those who have read the book, please choose a star rating based on how much you liked it.

If you do have something to post that may ruin the plot for others, please remember to use the spoiler function (Details: http://risibookclub.myfreeforum.org/ftopic12.php)

I'm about half way through this one, having been reading it on holiday. I've been thoroughly enjoying it but haven't been able to pick it up in the last week since being home.

Oops, never posted my thoughts!

I read this in June and enjoyed it, especially the first bits in London, then the final bits of the journey home which come to within 30 miles of where I live. I loved the characters but somehow there wasn't quite enough of a plot to make this a real hit for me.

My favourite by this author is definitely Girl with a Pearl Earring which I loved.

I finally finished this book last night! I did enjoy it and found it very easy to read. Easier than I expected actually. I agree that the plot was quite basic, and the ending is ok and although there are some loose threads left, I wasn't really left pondering them for long.

I enjoyed the descriptions of London and Dorsetshire. It seems very accurate in it's descriptive passages so the reader can really get a feel for life at that time. I really felt for Maggie and her work in the mustard and vinegar factories.

Overall I gave it 3/5 as I did like it but don't think it's overly memorable. It's the first I've read from this author and would try more of hers now.
