For those who have watched the film, please choose a star rating based on how much you liked it.
I hope I get round to watching the film and reading the book this month! I can't watch a film before reading the book but I've heard such great things about both! _________________ Reading: The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho

Well I got round to watching this yesterday and thought it was a good adaptation of the book. I'm pleased they didn't put in the bit about
Spoiler:
Amir's wife being coincidentally related to a US immigrations worker. It annoyed me in the book, but there's none of that in the film. It's enough finding out Assif is the Taliban guy Amir has to speak to to find Sohrab. Too coincidental for my liking. But hey...
...it's a great story, a moving film. I liked the actors who played Baba and Rahim Khan. The predjudice towards the Hazaras had me reaching for the tissues. And there's a great bit towards the end where
Spoiler:
Amir tells his father-in-law he doesn't want to hear him refer to Sohrab as 'the Hazar boy.
A faithful adaptation of the book. I gave it 4 stars. _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

I'm reading this at the mo. - but I will get the film when I'm done. I was in two minds about getting it, but as you say it's close enough to the book
I will give it a go!

It's been a while since I read the book, so the film brought it all back to life again, which has been good. I definitely recommend it. _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

Martin and I were lucky enough to get free preview tickets for this when it first came out.
I loved it - I was apprehensive about how they would do it, as the book was so good, but I wasnt let down at all.
I liked the sub titles, I thought it really added to the feel of the film.
Martin had not read the book and had no idea what the film was about so he was a good tester - he enjoyed it too, although he didnt cry as much as me!!
They are currently filming A Thousand Splendid Suns and I just hope they make as good a job of it. _________________ Currently reading: The Tent The Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy and Granny The Pag by Nina Bawden

oh my gosh, I cried enough watching Kite Runner. If A Thousand Splendid Suns is as good as this film I'll be buying a man size box of tissues _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

Woo! Managed to watch it on YouTube (been looking for it for ages!)
I loved it! I imagined their house to be completely different though.
But
Spoiler:
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwww to the eyeball bit
Someone had read the book and watched the film recently and said the film didn't live up to the book at all... been a while since I read it but I thought it did. Obviously missed out some subplots etc but still a pretty good film overall. The boys were fantastic.

I've haven't read the book, but just watched the film today. I loved it - 5*. I haven't seen such a great film like this in ages. Of course, it made me cry and I too loved the characters of Baba and Rahim Khan. What a wonderful story. I'm looking forward to getting into the book. _________________ handmade by Laura Croxson
Bry and I watched this last night and I was pleased that it didn't veer too much from the book which is one of my keepers. I thought it was good but I'm always a little disappointed in film adaptations of books I've read. Bry hasn't read the book but thought the film was good which is high praise indeed! _________________ Currently reading - The Italian Boy - Murder and Grave Robbery in 1830s London - Sarah Wise
Watched this last night on Sky box office. Loved it and so like the book
My favourite character was Hassan. He was such a sweet boy.
It's been ages since I read the book and had forgotten some bits.
It feels like I have just read the book all over again.
