I'm an English Literature student working this Summer with the evolving global polling site www.pollthepeople.com which aims to create a definitive list of favourite books. This site collects people's top 5s and compiles the list, the idea stemming from frustration at various tv/press polls which claim to be authoritative but are actually gathered by a few opinionated journalists. I've had a good response so far, for example, I emailed Audrey Niffenegger (The Time Traveller's Wife) to inform her she is in 16th place and she has just given me her top 5 books, which I will add to the site soon! Although similar in aim to other lists, this is principally a social networking site but with a difference – it can match users’ choices to similar selections by other users, forming a powerful recommendation tool. At the moment the poll is an interesting mix of popular and so-called critical choices; it'll be interesting to see where things go with time - e.g. lots of Harry Potter at the moment!

Anyway, be great to hear some people's thoughts on the site.
