I bought this from Blockbuster last weekend, so if anyone wants to borrow it, let me know. I really enjoyed the film.
Spoiler:
It was paced exactly as the book is. I did think Johansson could've shown more emotion - you wouldn't have thought she was sad at leaving her family, not like she is in the book anyway. The chemistry between Griet and Vermeer is good, but I felt there wasn't enough of it! But what there was, was good. Especially when he wipes the tear away from her lip - wow, I could sense the tension Some gorgeous scenes of Delft, beautifully done. I could easily watch this film again and again. Colin Firth is excellent as Vermeer, and you can really see his wife becoming more and more insecure because of his interest in Griet. Thought there could've been more of the film - it ended too soon. I could've watched it forever. I would've liked more scenes of Griet showing an interest in his paintings and him noticing her eye for colour, composition etc. And Tanekke was far too nice in the film These are all minor quibbles. The setting was just as I imagined it to be. Fab.

I have seen this film more than once and am never bored by the storyline. I love the atmosphere and the depiction of Delft is just as I imagined from reading the book.
Oh, and Colin Firth is always worth watching.....

Haven't read the book so can't compare the film to it, but on the whole I really enjoyed the film.
Spoiler:
I agree with you Glynis that Johansson could have shown more emotion at times, but like you thought that seen where he was piercing her ears was well done. I loved the setting as it was very stunning indeed, but was a little disappointed by the ending as it was halted far too abruptly in my opinion. Colin firth was outstounding as Vermeer, although how anyone can find him attractive just amuses me

I couldn't agree with your comments more Lisa (although I do quite fancy Colin Firth in Briget Jones!!!! LOL! ). Gave the film 3*'s because I thought it was OK but not a great one for me.
