I gave up. Got 80 or so pages into it but it just wasn't holding my attention.

I read this one years ago and I don't remember too much about it except it was about bullying I think or partly at least. I liked it but not as much as other Margaret Atwood novels like Blind Assassin or Alias Grace for example. Not my favourite Atwood but readable.

I debated whether to try to get hold of this one or not. I have started a couple of Margaret Atwood's works before and have not managed to stay with one to the end. After looking at some of the comments here already I decided that she is perhaps one of those authors that I just don't get on with for some reason and so voted that I did not read this one.

Margaret Atwood's one of my favourite authors but I can't remember much about this one, other than it was one of my least favourite of hers.

I'm really struggling with this at the moment, just doesn't seem to be 'hooking me'. Not helped by the fact I fell asleep reading last night so will need to re-read at least the last few pages!

Still not getting anywhere with this! Only about 90 pages in and considering giving up. Can anyone tell me if it gets any better?? If it picks up then I can push myself to get on with it otherwise I'm just stopping and moving on!

I think Margaret Atwood is an author you either love or just can't get on with.  I have to say I am a can't get on with but I know many who love her work, it's just one of those things.

Cat's Eye was included in the Guardian 1000 novels everyone must read:
Family & self:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2.../1000-novels-family-self-part-one

A retrospective exhibition prompts artist Elaine Risley to recollect a 1950s childhood spent at one with her scientist parents in the Canadian wilderness and at odds with her conformist contemporaries. A beautifully observed novel about an awkward child finding a mature means of expression in a country coping with similar challenges. Few writers have explored the vicissitudes of female friendship with as much acuity as Atwood does here: the intimacies, the rewards, the rivalries and the shockingly casual cruelty of little girls.
