'Reading in Bed' is the first of Sue Gee's novels that I have read, and having enjoyed it on the whole I will be seeking out the rest of them.

The novel is essentially about relationships, and how they alter and grow as time goes on.
Georgia is still grieving for her husband who passed away just over a year ago, and is still struggling to adjust to life without him. Her relationship with her daughter Chloe is strained at the best of times, and she deeply yearns for them to be close again.
Dido is Georgia's best friend, and has a seemingly perfect life.
Life for most can be compared to a roller coaster, and both Dido and Georgia will need to hand on tight.

Sue Gee has this wonderful ability to hook you in by the end of the first page. The main characters are quickly fleshed out, and they were all ones that I cared about even after finishing the novel.

'Reading in bed' mad me laugh, cry, angry, hopeful and much, much more. It address so many things in life that each and everyone of us will face at some stage. Death is always an unsettling subject for most to talk about, but here plenty of humor is injected without making light of it.

Initially I thought the novel was aimed at purely women around retirement age. I soon released however that it would appeal to a much wider audience. My only slight problem with the novel is the fact that Sue Gee is too over descriptive in places. At only 344 pages long, I did feel that it was padded out where it really needn't have been. As this didn't occur too much it's wasn't much of a problem, had there been more of that then It's likely I wouldn't have finished such an engaging novel.

If you have yet to read any of Sue Gee's novels, then I highly recommend this one. I'm off to seek out another one of hers that I hope will be equally as good.
