My son read this series himself between the ages of 6.5 and 7.5 although they could easily be read aloud too, from the age of 5. The subject matter is firmly based in toilet humour but the range of vocabulary is very impressive and the format varies from "normal" chapters to comic strip to flip-o-rama where you flick a short section to animate the pictures.
Expect lots of laughs and even share the fun as I did by taking turns to read each chapter if your child finds the whole chapter journey a bit daunting. Believe me, they'll be chomping at the bit to take their turn and will enjoy witnessing you reading passages such as....
"His eyes and nose were dripping with warm, greenish, custard like mucus. His robotic arms were caked with massive globules of crispy, shimmering snot. And as he turned to close the classroom door behind him, part of his hand came off on the door knob. It oozed slowly down the door, leaving behind a chunky trail of moist excretion".....ugh....
