Loved these books when I was little! Also had the audio cassettes read by Bernard Cribbins.
Sophie is small, but very determined. She loves animals - snails and cats and rabbits and dogs and pigs - and she wants to be a farmer when she grows up. Her best friend is Great-great-aunt Al from Scotland, who looks a bit like a bird, and her worst enemy is the dreadful Dawn. She'd love to have a pony, but doesn't think she'll ever be that lucky. On holiday at the seaside, she makes friends with Bumblebee the pony - and a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig!
Sophie's Snail
Sophie's Tom
Sophie Hits Six
Sophie in the Saddle
Sophie is Seven
Sophie's Lucky
They start with Sophie when she's 4 I think up to age 8. Each book is around 130 pages. Cassettes were really good though!

Glad to see a recommendation for these, I picked up Sophie hits six for 99p in The Works recently for my daughter. Hadn't heard of them before, though we've got a few of his animal ones.
