FEBRUARY BOOK CHOICES - YOU DECIDE!

Which books would you like to be read in February? All you have to do is vote for one of the books below. Read the blurbs and see if there is anything that looks interesting and the book with the most votes by 19th January will be chosen to be read from 1st February.

There is also another poll running so please take a look at that one too as there may be something on that list. There will be two books chosen but you don't have to read both if you don't want to.

The polls end midnight 19th January!

---------------------------------

1.
Perfume - Patrick Suskind £4.79 263 pages

A murder was the start of his obsession. It was after that first crime that he knew he was a genius, that he understood his destiny. He, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, the fishmonger's bastard, was to be the greatest perfumier of all time.

2.
Life of Pi - Yann Martel £5.19 384 pages

Life of Pi is a tale about survival, belief in God and coming of age, that unfolds while the protagonist is floating in a lifeboat on the Pacific Ocean. The main character, Pi Patel, is a loveable teenager with a lifelong curiosity for animals and religion. Pi grows up as the son of a zookeeper in Pondicherry, India. He is intensely religious and practices Hinduism, Islam and Christianity with equal zeal.

3.
Affinity - Sarah Waters £6.39 368 pages

A spellbinding ghost story, a complex and intriguing historical mystery, and a poignant romance with an enexpected twist.

4.
The Smooth Face of Evil - Margaret Yorke - not really available from Amazon (Marketplace only) 320 pages

A crime novel in which a personable confidence trickster is accused of a murder he did not commit. From the author of FALSE PRETENCES, ACTS OF VIOLENCE and QUESTION OF BELIEF.

5.
My Sister's Keeper - Jodi Picoult £3.49 432 pages

Written with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity, this novel is about a teen who was conceived as a bone marrow match for her sister Kate, and what happens when she begins to question who she really is.

6.
How to Breathe Under Water - Julie Orringer £6.39 240 pages

Nine brave, wise, and spellbinding stories make up this award-winning debut. In "When She is Old and I Am Famous" a young woman confronts the inscrutable power of her cousn's beauty. In "Note to Sixth-Grade Self" a band of popular girls exert their social power over an awkward outcast. In "Isabel Fish" fourteen-year-old Maddy learns to scuba dive in order to mend her family after a terrible accident.
Alive with the victories, humiliations, and tragedies of youth, How to Breathe Underwater illuminates this powerful territory with striking grace and intelligence.

7.
The Birth of Venus - Sarah Dunant £4.89 416 pages

The Birth of Venus is a tour de force from one of Britain's most innovative thriller writers. It brings alive the history of Florence at its most dramatic period, telling a compulsively absorbing story of love, art, religion and power through the passionate voice of Alessandra, a remarkable heroine with the same vibrancy as her beloved city.

I'm torn between Perfume and Life of Pi. I've been told Life of Pi is amazing.

I chose Jodi Picault because her work merits discovery. She deals with very sensitive topics and does so exceedingly sensitively.

Perfume is an amazing book - worth a look. Life of Pi wasn't as good as the hype, I fear. MSK was very good, more to do with the issues raised than the writing style, plenty to discuss there! I went for Birth of Venus as it's on my TBR pile.

I just managed to get a swap for Perfume as it looks like it might be the winner... if not then it's just another book to add to my TBR!
