Jeeze.......these people!
I like telegraphs stand - particularly the comment:
"What's more, there is something psychologically reassuring about a book. It is an embodiment of knowledge that is tangible and finite"
I'm currently selling books from the 1700's and its wonderful to hold them - look at them and imagine all the people who have read them over the last 300 years (even if they do smell musty!)
I'm not saying I would not use an e-reader or whatever - I certainly would. And I have loads of classics on my Nintendo DS. But there is a time and a place. TV has not killed off live entertainment - or has Video killed the radio star!

Anyone who works with VDU's in this country is entitled to free eye test and you are also supposed to take a break from looking at the screen every 20 mins as well as other rules and regs. The implication being that computer screens damage your eyes. Should we really be encouraging children to spend even more time in front of a screen?
Is this a devious scheme by opticians and lens makers to drum up more business!!
Or just a case of too much power and too little brain.
I have always said that I would never have a book reader but I have been considering getting one if they get cheaper. Not has a replacement for books but as an extra - and I am running out of room to put bookcases.
