Do the amount of pages put you off reading a book?

I'm just curious to know (I'm a curious sort) whether or not the amount of pages put you off reading a book?

For me personally I have to be in the right mood, and know I'll have plenty of time to enjoy a book if I'm going to wade through 600 odd pages.
I've nearly been put of buying a book that was very short (under 200 pages), as I thought that I'd get too wrapped up in the characters, and then feel I'm left wanting when thestory suddenly ends.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is short, but I'm glad I read that.

I feel I am getting value for money if a book as a lot of pages. I usually like big books as  you can really get involved in the story.

I think big book have only put me off since I've had nearly a hundred waiting to be read. Before that I think I used to revel in them, which is partly why I'd prefer to have fewer (but not enough to stop me accumulating books by the various means available!).

I don't worry about short books, as often they are just very well structured and tell a well rounded tale.

I went for sometimes!

I went for 'sometimes' but being realistic it is probably 'yes'!  I have a lot of larger books that have been on my TBR for some time.

I suppose when I'm reading a long-er book e.g. my current read (The Waste Lands, Stephen King) is 584  pages, it feels like more of an achievement when you finish it ? ... or maybe 'achievement' is a word that is more suited to a long book which you are not particularly enjoying.

When I first started reading Haruki Murakami, for a birthday treat for myself I made sure to get the longest one of his from Waterstones - The Wind-Up bird Chronicle (this was a couple of years ago)

I've polled a no on this.

I guess the number of pages might matter depending on my mood, what other projects I have that encroach on my reading time and so on. But the number of pages would not put me off - long books are for when I have the time to do them justice, so they might be postponed to such a time.  Short books I am less likely to buy and more likely to borrow from the library - I'm often guilty of withdrawing more than I can possibly read and have to return them unread!

Me too, the last time I was at the library I got three large books and didn't read a word of any of them.  I am now on the waiting list for about three more and I WILL READ THEM.

It doesn't put me off reading  a book if it's big but sometimes I admit to putting it off until I have more time or until I really feel like getting stuck into a long story. I will one day read Cecelia by Fanny Burney!!!
