Has anyone read: Tea on the Blue Sofa - Natasha Illum BergJust wondered if anyone had read any of her books.
This 1 is based in Africa, sounds different to my usual kind of books, but havin trouble understanding where this is going. Will carry on as its only early in the book lol.
Any opinions are appreciated.
Anoushka's lover is gunned down outside her house one night. The lover is never named, we do not find out who killed him. But this is not the point of Natasha Illumberg's wistful first novel, set against the hills of East Africa. Rather it is an elegy to passion unspent. Hers is an illicit love affair which she must keep secret from the white community she disdains. Deeply embedded in the Tanzanian landscape, her story rings with earthy images of the Africa she loves and the Sweden that formed her. When her lover dies, she tears the hands from the clocks, turns time inside-out and speaks this love story into being. It is a tale filled with un-unusual images and strange rhythms, but one to read when you have time to savour the words and perhaps are feeling a little sad yourself.

How is it different, do you not normally read love stories or is it the African location ?

It does sound rather a strange premise for a story and rather depressing? I don't know about you but I tend to go for a bit of escapism when I am feeling a bit sad and low. Having said all that, I am usually game to try something different so if you figure it out and feel it is worth the challenge I might keep an eye out for it.

That is why I like reading books that are in the 1,001 books you must read before you die etc. as it covers lots of different genres and makes me read things I wouldn't have even picked up off the shelf in the first place
