Hi all!

Hi everyone
Have finally found my way over here from the ReadItSwapIt Site... don't know quite why it's taken so long!

I'm a 40-something stay-at-home-mom of 2 - Emily (15) and Ben (12) - and have 3 cats (and a husband tho he's away most of the week!)

I've always been a passionate reader - the sort who'll read the back of the cornflake packet if there's nothing else to hand! My particular loves are detective/adventure stories and the Victorian novels, but I have pretty wide-ranging tastes really and will try anything once! I'm looking forward to getting even more great recommendations on here.

Hi Penny... glad you've come over here too!!!

If you like Victorian novels you could help me with my essay, it's all about Victorian moral values!

Welcome Penny.

That was my nickname at school because I always took a penny for the bus home. An Old Penny - that shows how old I am!

Would love to help if I can ... though I think my knowledge of the novels may be of limited use? The more you read by writers such as Dickens, Trollope, Wilkie Collins etc, the more muddled i think their morals appear!

Is your essay for an OU course or something? And is it a literary question or a historical one? The more I think about it, the more interesting it seems.

What's your essay question MM? I wouldn't mind possibly helping out.

PS even though I've admitted I haven't read Dickens's works yet

Hi penny welcome and your avatar is fab! I need to get me one!

Yes it's an OU course, it's actually called 'Start Writing Essays' - unfortunately my assignment is to write an essay but only using two texts from a choice I got.

I have done the first draft now though, just need to tidy it up a bit.

The question was 'Victorian moral values applied equally to all.' Discuss this statement in relation to the lives of women in the mid-Victorian texts.

Thanks for the offers of help though!!
Tigerlily

What texts are you using in your essay MM? And what class of women are in the texts?

Sorry if you've already told us this!
