Yeah you should! Check out the 'winners board' to see how many times people have won and what they've won. You have only to win once to become addicted to the buzz you get from winning
nicnic

I got The Lies of Locke Lamora in the mail yesterday - I didn't even know I'd won it
sirg1006

Well done Nic!

D
sirg1006

I won another book 'The Eustace Diamonds'... would like to win something other than a book next

D
Tigerlily

Send us some of your luck! Well done. You've reminded me to enter more comps.
sirg1006

I haven't got much luck at the moment - only won 4 things this month plus haven't entered comps for ages! I got up to the 10th Aug or something so there will be billions!

D
sirg1006

Ooh I'm hoping my luck is changing!! Today I got an e-mail to say I'd won a House of Holland limited edition t-shirt! Was only 100 x 4 t-shirts made selling on the Kickers website for £35

D
eightlegs

Well done, a win is a win let's face it. You can always give it away (as a present! or for free) or donate it to a charity shop so someone benefits!
Tigerlily

Excellent, congrats on your wins Debbie - and you Nicnic, just spotted your post. Nice wins
amarie

This week won £10 on a scratchcard & a tee-shirt with hydro-active lucozade!! Still deciding what to spend the £10 on!
Tigerlily

Nice one Amarie!
lovely treez

Got my first freebie from Waterstones to review - Sarah's Key - Tatiana de Rosnay - a gripping read which I read this weekend as I was so eager to get the review sent off!! I've tried so many times and have always been too late but if at first you don't succeed...
annecater

I got a Waterstones review book on Friday too. The Journal of Dora Damage by Belinda Starling. I'm over half way through and really want to finish it before I go on holiday tomorrow. It's excellent, I'm really enjoying it.
sirg1006

Well done you two! Never even tried to get one Still battling my way through what I have at the moment!

LOL Debbie. With the size of my TBR, I shouldnt be requesting them either, but just cant resist an uncorrected proof!!
lovely treez

Well, got my review sent off - here's hoping they'll send me some others. I guess it's so much easier when it's a gripping book. I just checked out Tatiana de Rosnay's blog and it's really interesting. I think I'm going to get addicted to author blogs now!!
annecater

Received another book from Waterstones this morning, this time it is for the online book group. For One More Day by Mitch Albom - I wasnt overly keen on his other two books, I found them too sentimental. It will be interesting to see what this one is like.
sirg1006

Well done Anne! Only read Five People but really liked it.

Today I got a French Phrasebook - the packaging label said CR WINNER but no mention of where it came from... vaguely remember entering something like that though... don't think it was DK - prob Collins.

D
Tigerlily

When I'm not sure why I'm entering a particular comp, I always win the prize So I wasn't surprised to see a British climbing DVD on my doormat this morning. Maybe I should take that attitude when entering comps to win cars, room makeovers etc.

Seriously, I'm grateful to have won. It's been ages since I won anything.
Tigerlily

Actually it's £14-18 to buy new, it's just been released, and has won at least 4 awards. It's called Set in Stone and shows a Cumbrian man called Dave Birkett climbing in the Lake District.
sirg1006

I'm the same - used to order every freebie going and ended up with loads of stuff i never used so the only went for what I wanted. Same with comps ... will enter for any CD or DVD as they're easy to post but don't enter for kids stuff and fridges etc. as rather that went to someone who could use it.

At last I got my Anthony Trollope book - The Eustace Diamonds. 800 pages though

D
eightlegs

I got a book to review today via Harper Collins - for my daughter! I did a survey and they asked if you had a daughter aged between 4 and 7 (or something like that), my daughter is 5 so they've sent me a picture book called Fancy Nancy. Anyone else got one?

It claims to be a New York Times bestseller. I read it and it seemed ok but nothing special (Not in the Gruffalo category for eg) but I have yet to see what my daughter makes of it!
Tigerlily

Oh well done Sarah I did the same survey but when I told them my daughter is under 4, they said thanks but no thanks

Hope you enjoy the book
MissMuppet

I received my Harper Collins book (The Savage Garden) today and yesterday I had enough book points on The Bookpeople to get Gordon Ramsay's new book for free... it was £5.99 (RRP £20), although it was in the VIP section so not everyone might be able to get it.
lovely treez

Just seeing this now, Sarah, I got Fancy Nancy for Eva too. I said she was 4 (well, she will be on the 16th!). Much to my surprise she absolutely loved it. I thought the language (as in American English) would be off-putting but she has now started calling her dressing gown a "peignoir"!! and talks about holding up your pinkie when having a cup of tea....She loves the glitter, fluffy stuff and accessories and has talked about starting to teach the rest of us in the family to be fancy!!

I got notification yesterday that I'd won a signed copy of Grievance (can't remember the author!) from Harper Collins - wonder how long it will take to arrive??
sirg1006

Well done Treez! HC don't normally take long to send out books although I think Jo had to wait a while for one so may have been out of stock or something?

D
MissMuppet

Yeah there was an apology letter with mine saying that they didn't realise stocks were low... I think it's been a few months now I've been waiting! Oh well, it got here in the end...
dingsy

I've won a prize!!

Got a bag full of goodies from London Fashion week, courtesy of Skinny Cow. Books, magazine, shampoo/cosmetics/perfume-and food bits too. All in a nice jute bag. What fun!
MissMuppet

Ooooo lucky you Elaine!!! Sounds like a great prize...
sirg1006

Congrats Elaine!

I had a lucky 1st October - won £50 on a cashback site, then saw I won a £5 Amazon voucher on another cashback site. Then I Googled my name and saw I won a t-shirt in April from Ben & Jerry's... apparently they're bad at sending out prizes so won't give up till I receive it!

Today got a letter to say I didn't win a comp but they sent me a lip balm sample instead.

D
annecater

I got another Waterstones review book - The Making of Mia by Ilana Fox - not too sure about this one, looks very similar to The Devil Wears Prada and the author works for The Sun!! Will be interesting to review I think, I did enjoy TDWP, but dont like copy cat books.
nicnic

I won Black Girl WHite Girl by Joyce Carol Oates from Harper Collins
lovely treez

Got book from Waterstones to review - We are Now Making our Descent - James Meek and recently won a signed copy of Grievance - Marguerite Alexander from Harper Collins.
Tigerlily

Well done Treez.

I do love it when there are new posts on this thread
lisa2062

Yesterday I finally got 'The Bourne Ultimatum' freebie which I was beginning to wonder if I'd ever receive. As it was a freebie I was expecting it to be a small book, but it's just over 700 pages and costs about £7 in the shops so i was really pleased Lisa x
amarie

OK nothing major, but won again on Lottery card £5 this time. Have a few black cats cross my path- seriously!!
Tigerlily

Yay! I've won a copy of The Runes of the Earth - The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen Donaldson, from Waterstones' free book giveaway. Just received it in the post, a nice surprise.

lisa2062

Well done Glynis . Lisa x
lovely treez

Well done Glynis - I got the Philospher's Apprentice, the new James Morrow novel to review for Waterstones. BTW can't wait for the Advent Calendar competions - were there 3 of them - Random House, Random House for Kids and Transworld - not that I won anything but Luke, Eva and I enjoyed opening them each day. Did anyone here win anything from them last December?
eightlegs

Not exactly a win but got a letter from Southern Electric yesterday saying I could have £20 as a thank you for being a loyal customer, either money off my bill, an Argos voucher or donate it to charity.

I had no idea it was coming so was well chuffed!

You're right Treez, Random House, Transworld etc. I won a couple of them last year, but didn't know about them at all til about 10th Dec, so will be entering like mad this year. There'll be more, so will post a link to all of them (incl non book comps) in the hope some of us will win something. We won a preschool kids goody bag, although it was a bit disappointing as it got battered in transit - a boxset of Mrs Pepperpot books, Balamory mug, Pokoyo CD and a book called The Saddest King.
lovely treez

oh I loved the Mrs Pepperpot series. Fingers crossed we all win something this year.
Tigerlily

Yes I loved Mrs Pepperpot as a kid. If I remember rightly, a few of us won prizes from the advent calendar comps last year. It spurred me on, such a nice feeling
annecater

I received a book called Rough Justice by Keith Watson in the post this morning - from meettheauthor with a note saying enjoy your prize. It's a signed copy too. I dont remember entering the comp though!
It doesnt really look my cup of tea but it's a beautiful copy!
Tigerlily

That's fab, signed by the author Anne. I enter those comps but haven't won yet. Congrats
annecater

I've just had an e mail from 'Between The Sheets' saying I've won a signed copy of the Russian Concubine.

I'm really chuffed - a lovely way to start the year.  I'm going to keep on entering these draws now.  That's the 3rd I've won in a couple of months including the BB comp.
Tigerlily

Well done Anne! You're on a roll. Do you remember the spot the bookstore competition? I think on bookgroup.info? Well I won the £10 book voucher!   Thanks Lisa for telling me it was in Paris!!

and before xmas I won £50 of 3M sticky products(arrived xmas eve when everything was already wrapped)and £250 to spend on the christmas wrapped up website.put in an order yesterday so now waiting for it to turn up to put it in the loft till next year....
Tigerlily

Ooh won another prize - paintballing for 4 people at a Ministry of Paintballing site in conjunction with Chris Ryan's new thriller, Outbreak, and the Random House Children's Books 2007 advent calendar.

So yeah! I won one of the advent comps. However as paintballing is not my cuppa, I'll be giving the prize to Tim as a birthday pressie hehe. It's his birthday in a couple of weeks.
lovely treez

I just got an e mail saying I won that paintballing one too but I can't see any venues close to us as in N or S Ireland?
sirg1006

Congrats everyone!

I'm falling behind this year - not won anything!

D
Tigerlily

Oh my gosh, just had a phone call from Focus mag (I think it was them anyway). I entered a comp which I didn't win, but the winner has dropped out, and my name was next out the hat. The prize is a luxury  trip to Harrogate this weekend including dinner, accommodation, champers...all for two people and unfortunately we are three people, and it being such short notice, we're going to have to turn it down. Harrogate is gorgeous as well

Still, nice to have sort of won it
lisa2062

Oh what a shame Glynis! Lisa x
annecater

Oh Glynis - that's such a shame,  Harrogate is wonderful too.  I'm gutted for you x
lovely treez

What a shame, Glynis.  They certainly don't give much notice even if someone else had dropped out.  You'd think they would offer an alternative, even cash??  Wonder if they were able to get someone else to take it?
sirg1006

I got my first 2008 win!

Coke phoned me to say I won a 12 month sub to a magazine from the advent so sending the info so I can choose

Hope it's the start of them flooding in now!

D
annecater

Well done Debbie!
lovely treez

Yay, Debbie, this is the start of your winning streak!!

My son Luke won his first ever prize - we came home from swimming yesterday to find a large box waiting for us - Bry was home and took it in so we don't have a careless postie!!  It was addressed to Luke and came from Hornby and we hadn't a clue what it was - we let Luke open it himself and he was the picture of happiness and much whooping and dancing when he saw it was a micro Scalectrix Transformers set _ worth about £40 that he must have won in the Transformers Mag online comps that we've been entering for a couple of months now.  For a boy who is mad about cars and Transformers it was the ideal prize.  We have all been having great fun with it - even Eva and I had a sneaky go on it when Luke was at school.  I was in tears (of joy, obviously!!) when I saw how pleased he was.

Now I need to enter a few for Eva to level things up...
sirg1006

Aww how sweet!

I was on holiday when Max won his first comp... was a Hot Wheels set but Sasha still not had any luck although she only wanted to enter DS comps and got one for Christmas anyway

Hope Eva has some luck!

D
Tigerlily

Yeah! Well done Luke   and good luck to Eva.

Well done Debs, that's a cool prize, do you know which mag yet? Here's to many more wins for you - you'll be on a roll now
annecater

I received an uncorrected proof copy of Crossed Bones by Jane Johnson today from Penguin Books.
I'm not sure why - I must have entered a competition I suppose!

Anyway, it looks great and was a nice surprise!
sirg1006
