What have you won/received for free?To give people a little faith in competitions, please post here if you win a book or manage to receive any for free.
In the past I've won 'Kaitlyn' by Kevin Lewis from Closer Magazine and 'Scarecrow' by Mathew Reilly from the Metro online.
I recommend entering the Now Magazine competitions ( http://risibookclub.myfreeforum.org/ftopic100.php ) - I just won a competition from them

I get a few book related freebies, but that's cos I've registered my other book group everywhere. Have received lots of paperback fiction, wine, books to review and now the book journal which I'm looking forward to receiving.
If I get any more freebies, could use them as prizes on here and run our own little comps

I got 'Triptych' by Karin Slaughter and 'Beautiful Child' by Torey Hayden free from Tesco because they had mispriced them.

Glynis, book journal as in somewhere to record your reads?? Would be interested in one of these - was it from a bookshop?
|
Tigerlily
|
Hi Treez - haven't received the book journal yet, but here's some info for you (published by HarperCollins):
| Quote: | BOOK JOURNAL
With major prize winner listings, dates for global literary festivals, a short guide to running a book group and suggested titles to read from 10 well-known authors, along with plenty of elegantly designed pages in which to record your thoughts, the ‘Book Journal’, is an indispensable log for book group member or solitary book enthusiast alike. |
You can buy it from Amazon for £9.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obid...ncoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
Was going to mention you enter the HarperCollins comp to win the journal but it closed 4th Oct.

Nicnic, Congratulations!
Glynis, have you received the book journal yet? A "friend" on another site has just received notification that they've won one too but she said that she hopes that it arrives as the last few times she "won" something on Harper Collins, they didn't arrive in the post. Fingers crossed as I will be so disappointed and lets keep on entering anyway.
BTW, I haven't received any e mail surveys since the initial one, that happened the last time I registered too. Has everyone else who subscribed to the Readers' Corner received regular surveys??

Congratulations Nicnic. Let's hope you win a third time
I'm supposed to be receiving the Book Journal as a free gift via BookGroup.info. It's been a while, but then the other 2 freebies I got from them took at least 2 months to arrive. I will definitely buy it if it doesn't turn up.
Would love some of your luck Nicnic!
Oh I haven't received any more surveys from HarperCollins either Treez. It did say when I signed up that they'd be sent every couple of months.

I didn't either Nicnic. I would have preferred some confirmation of registering with them.
Treez won a book through Readers' Corner though. Did you receive any confirmation after completing the survey Treez?

Loads of comps I've entered via the links on BB end tonight. If anyone else has entered, good luck! Would be great to see more winners on here

Got the book this week, Glynis and actually got a survey to complete but that's the first one ever and I think I'm signed up for weekly surveys. It all seems pretty haphazard as members of another forum I frequent seem to win a lot of free books but then they are getting the surveys. I think it might pay to keep on re-registering with them - does no harm anyway.

I haven't won anything yet... apart from the competition on here of course!
I have started a challenge on moneysavingexpert forums to raise £1024 in 11 weeks... start with a £1 and double it each week! The rule is you can only use things to make money that you didn't pay for to begin with...
Better get entering some competitions!

Debbie, Cosmo could be read to 5 and over but for independent reading probably 7 upwards if they're into reading. Hope the children have got a bit more amenable now - must be if you're still doing it or is it a case of needs must??

My sister has told me I'll win a third time (like Nicnic). I hope so!! Can't believe I won two things in one day. Sooo chuffed

Twas me who asked about were they Venture - and yes we had a family portrait done with them a couple of years ago. they have very clever marketing and you end up wanting to buy loads as the pics come out lovely - very modern - you have to jump in the air and stuff!! If you can resist and just go for what they're offering it's not too bad but we were only offered a 7 x 5 framed which is no size.
|
Tigerlily
|
We had some pics done by Venture last year - Tim bought me a gift experience voucher for Mother's Day. We went along to the Venture in York and had a lovely time. Whilst the voucher cost £45 & included a 7 x 10 photo + frame, we could tell we'd have to spend a lot lot more if we wanted anything else. I felt quite emotional viewing the slideshow as the pics were wonderful and I knew Tim didn't want to pay £1k + which is what they charge for large pics (ridiculous prices & they tried offering us credit + we never ever use credit cards etc). We ended up buying a set of 2 small pics as well as the freebie for over £200. It's very clever marketing, aimed right at the heart
I'd pay to have all the photos they took on CD to take home, but they don't offer that. I felt quite angry that they have pics of my family and I can never see them unless I pay ridiculous sums of money.
OK rant over

Glynis, I agree totally with you on the Venture theme. I was sobbing during the screening as they also have some very heartrending music on in the background. They are very good at what they do but the prices are exhorbitant and as you say, you would love to have all the pics on CD.
|
Tigerlily
|
You pay an affordable sum for a Venture experience voucher, but it's too much of a huge leap from that to £1,000 + and it's a shock. I can imagine many get caught out by that and end up feeling obliged to take out credit to buy large pics.
|

Thanks ladies and Glynis ur pic is fab!!! I am going to use the £75 off ( equivalant of the 7 x 5 pic to go the next size and mum is going to buy one but that will be it.....
