Sophie HannahI just thought Id'd tell you all about how I spent yesterday afternoon
Sheffield run an 'Off the shelf' book festival and I managed to get a ticket to see Sophie Hannah talking. She was really personable, very funny and dry, and friendly. I did mention that she was doing a question and answer for us on here too!
Mainly Sophie was talking about 'The Point of Rescue' but there were references to her previous books, her poetry writing past, her big contract (she has signed to do 5 books in 5 years) and more. I mentioned that I'm not normally big on psychological stuff like she writes but that I enjoyed Little Face, and asked who she was most compared to. She said that some people say she is like Jodi Picoult, although she tried reading My Sister's Keeper adn found it so traumatic she hasn't read any more!, but mainly she gets compared to Ruth Rendell (who I have never treid, so maybe I will now!)
It was a lovely afternoon!

I got a brochure for the Off The Shelf festival Katey but most of the stuff was mid week and not really able to do that.
Caroline and I saw Sophie Hannah a while back, I really liked her, I thought she was very funny and so down to earth. I asked her why her main female characters were so obnoxious!
I'd recommend her to anyone.

I went to a few of the Off the Shelf events, including the Sophie Hannah/Ann Cleeves one (a different one to yours Katey). Unfortunately, less than half the people who had bought tickets turned up, and even more unfortunately everybody was much more interested in Sophie Hannah than Ann Cleeves. But it was a very good event, and SH was a great speaker.
