Hi Blueflower
I have read Possessing the Secret of Joy, I really enjoyed it - though I kinda felt like crossing my legs all the way through it . If you liked The Color Purple I think you would like this other one. It is also quite a short easy read, so if you don't like it you wont have wasted too much time on it. I liked it better that Meridian which I found kinda hard to understand, but I will def. read more be Alice Walker, probably try Temple of my Familiar next. Anyone read that?
Another book you might like Blueflower is Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe (sp?)it is about an African tribe and what happens when the missionaries arrive. I liked this one a lot, though it wasn't really what I was expecting - if you know what i mean

Thanks, I have just looked at it on Amazon and added it to my November order. (I allow myself on order a month form Amazon). But in the meantime I will keep and eye out in charity shops, ebay and RISI.
I watched the film this weekend and it actually filled in a few blanks for me.
Spoiler:
One big one was I didn't realise (maybe I just missed something in the book) that Albert went to the Immigration place to help Nettie get back to the US with Samuel and the children...
I enjoyed the film though, certainly was as good as the book for me.
Well, I'm only two years late reading this one!
I read it on holiday and was blown away by it. It moved me to tears in places, how have I missed this before? And, I've never even seen the film either!
A wonderful story and possibly my favourite from the 1001 Books List so far too. _________________ Currently reading: The Tent The Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy and Granny The Pag by Nina Bawden
