We're still reading Winnie-the-Pooh, it's great. We love acting out the stories with the toys. Bless Eeyore all cold in his field at 3 o'clock in the morning!

Today we picked up a Readers' Digest Childhood Favourites book in slipcase from Home Bargains for just £2.99. (£20 on Play). Bargain.

Different cover to one shown, but the same book. Tonight we read the story of Babar. What a fantastic story. I remember reading this as a child. We had a serious chat about 'cruel hunters' and what they do with the elephants and animals they've killed. The rest of the story managed to divert Charis' attention from the hunter, but at the end she wanted to return to the page and talk about Babar's mum.

Popped into Morrison's this evening and had to wait for Charis whilst she sat on the book display unit and leafed through Goodbye Mog by Judith Kerr.

Again she was curious about Mog's passing, but more interested in the Thomases' new kitten and comparing it to her new kitten. She loved how Debbie and Nicky have a tea party with their toys for the new kitten. Charis loves pretend tea parties so this is one to add to our wish list.

Another book we picked up at the school fair:

Be Gentle! by Virginia Miller. She loves Bartholomew and it's a coincidence that Ba has a new kitten and is rough with her at first, picking her up round the neck etc. We have a new kitten, she's just 3 months old, and Charis was picking her up by the neck   She now knows how to pick up our kitty, thank goodness! But has started saying 'Nah' whenever she is told off, something she picked up from these Bartholomew books. So we've started calling her Ba when she's got a cob on

Now this last one is such a fun and interactive book:

You're Not So Scary, Sid! by Sam Lloyd. You might have seen it in the supermarket; it's where we found it. It's such a good story with the puppet. I won't tell you the story as don't want to spoil it! We loved it so much it's definitely on the wish list. One to make parent/carer and child laugh and be noisy!

Oh and one last one:

Pooh! Is That You, Bertie? by David Roberts. My sister sent this to Charis to cheer her up when she fractured her collar bone recently (she's absolutely fine now!). It comes with a CD and we love children's audio books. I just love how the mum coughs to cover her fluffs. Classic. Kids just love stuff like this. Charis was more interested in the slug that creeps into the illustrations about half way through the book. Whenever she 'boffs' now, we say, pooh! Is that you? and have a little giggle. The illustrations are excellent. I just love the smug look on the knackered old dog's face.

These all look great Glynis. Sorry to hear about Charis and her collar bone, hope she's ok now.

We love the Sam Lloyd books, we've got Calm Down Boris which is a similar idea with the puppet etc. Laurence loves it and even Kiran is getting interested, he just loves the tickly kisses from Boris rather than the story.
