Yay me, I have already read 2 so far this year! Ok, so one of them was a short story but its still one to be crossed off the list

1. The Yellow Wallpaper - Charlotte Purkins Gilman
and 2. Brave New World - Aldous Huxley

Brave New World is a definite keeper for me, I thought it was fascinating and very thought provoking.

My current read, The Woman in White; Wilkie Collins is in the 1,001.

I'm also aiming to do a TBR challenge this year- list 12 books that have been on your shelves the longest, quite a few of these (7) are in the 1,001 :

- Everything is illuminated, Jonathan Safran Foer
- Steppenwolf, Herman Hesse
- Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, Robert M Pirsig
- The Story of Lucy Gault, William Trevor
- Elizabeth Costello, J M Coetzee
- Tintin & the secret of literature
- First Love, Ivan Turgenev
- Fingersmith, Sarah Waters
- The Tenderness of Wolves, Stef Penney
- What I loved, Siri Hustvedt
- Atonement, Ian McEwan
- Red Azalea, Anchee Min

I failed big time last year.  I think I only read one or two.  Must try harder.

Yes, I really like the idea of this challenge as it seems really managable- a book a month! - obv. I hope to read a lot more than 12 books this year, but it frees me up to also read as many of the monthly choices on here that I want to as well, or anything else that takes my fancy x

I read a grand total of 3 1001 books in 2008

However have made a good start for this year. Have read:

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson

and am currently reading: Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre.

I loved Miss Pettigrew - such good fun and I'd love her to sort out my life for me!! I'm loving VGL - it's so good and think it'd make an excellent book of the month choice.

I've finished my first challenge book for this year, Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. It was an interesting story but I found it a long and hard slog to get through it.

I've finished my first challenge book of 2009 - Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel - a quick and quirky read.
