hi everyone
apologies for the lack of caps and lowercase i's in advance.
i've been through an odd reading phase over the last year where nothing really seemed to fit... i've been feeling very depressed about it... then a friend recommended the first book below (for some reason i'd never ventured into the biography section before) and i found that my passion for reading hadn't left me after all... thank goodness.
these two books have really swept me off my feet and restored my faith in reading... they've made me both laugh and cry...
the first was foreskin's lament by shalom auslander (really it's a legit auto-biography not a rude book at all)
the second i just finished last night - infidel by ayann hirsi ali. this really is a very important book.
anyway... i hope to be inspired and challenged.
amira

Hi and welcome to BB, hope you like it here and get lots more inspiration.
I've had a quick look at your recommendations on Amazon and think they both look really interesting, I've now added about 4 more books to my wishlist!! _________________ Currently Reading:

Hi and welcome to BB. It's awful when you struggle to find a good book to read - and I'm glad you have re-discovered the joys of reading. There will be lots on here to tempt you I'm sure! _________________ Currently reading: The Tent The Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy and Granny The Pag by Nina Bawden

i really do think "infidel" is a very important book. (it may not be a good book to discuss on a forum though as some of the ideas contained in it could offend...?)
but i really would urge anyone interested in issues concerning the role of religion on women's lives to read it...
it's written in a very simple way with an extraordinary grace and intelligence - which is remarkable considering the appalling abuse that the author suffered. yet despite the abuse it is such an inspiring and uplifting book to read. i hope you enjoy it as much as i did. i shan't forget it. |
