Gave it 4 stars as I am not sure. I thought I would love it but I think I must have missed someting when reading it, I did read it quite quickly.
Liked the way it ended but felt it could hve been a lot longer but I suppose she only really had seven days over which to tell the story (yu will know why when you read).
I have put in on my keepers shelfs as I think I want to read it again. I am hoping the discussion on here will help to fill in my blanks. _________________

I am about 100 pages in, and, although I am enjoying it, I don't find myself rushing home to read it as I did with 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. I am however constantly thinking out different scenarios as to what has happened - but I can never guess these things! A good read so far. _________________ Currently reading: The Human Stain by Philip Roth

Four stars from me - found it very gripping but it lacked something -maybe as Saucy mentioned it would have taken a longer timescale and therefore longer book to flesh out the characters a bit but then that might have spoilt the suspense. It certainly was more plot driven than character driven but I did find it fascinating - I think when we start discussing it, we will have a lot of questions about why certain characters did certain things. God, I seem to be going in circles - story of my life! _________________ Currently reading - The Italian Boy - Murder and Grave Robbery in 1830s London - Sarah Wise
I enjoyed it but maybe a little disappointed with the ending, it seemed a little rushed. It was gripping though and I had to keep reading to find out what happened. I gave it 4 stars!

Spoiler:
Totally agree Miss Muppet. At first I thought it was just ok, but after about 1/2 way I was hooked, and read the second half of the book in one sitting! I was so intrigued to find out about the baby swap, and when in the end there was no swap I was a bit gutted. However, I should have known that Alice was an unreliable narrator I was also disappointed that we didn't find out more about Simon, but I guess that was kinda the point she was making at the end "There will always be loose ends, threads dangling from all our lives - the unresolved, the unsatisfactory"
So an ok read, but only 3 stars from me - I am tough to please _________________ Currently reading: The Human Stain by Philip Roth

Ok, so I don't read crime fiction and I'm not one for violence unless its the historical variety but I thought I'd give this a try and....
Spoiler:
I have no strong feelings either way I was glad that Alice planned the swap thing from the start as it meant she wasn't a victim the whole time. I was pretty convinced by her act though. David was a complete . He must have had a few screws loose I think to treat Alice so badly. And his mother, well, talk about a control freak. I kind of guessed she was responsible for Laura's death but I confess I did waver slightly when Laura warned Alice that David could be dangerous.
The story line following the detectives' feelings and whatnot I felt didn't really add to the story much except to explain why Simon wanted to find Alice so much.
Overall, I'd say this book is no better or worse than any other of its genre. _________________ Currently reading: Man in the Dark by Paul Auster

Totally agree, I found myself skipping chapters of the police, I was getting bored half way through, but gave it a blast last night and finished it. Not overly impressed, thought the plot was brilliant and for me if the author had just concentrated on Alice I would have enjoyed it more. I gave it 3 stars. _________________ Currently reading On Beauty by Zadie Smith

I would only give it 3/5 as it took me a long time to get involved. I found I had to read it in big chunks or else I just seemed to be skimming it. Certainly a good idea but perhaps too many chops and changes.
