OH spotted that Brick Lane is on Film 4 tonight, 9pm.
Dunno if we'll watch it, or if he was just pointing it out to me as a matter of interest as I read the book in January.  Anyone seen the film ?

I've seen the film and read the book too. It's a while since I saw the film and from what I can remember it kept to the book in many aspects but the length of the film is just not long enough to delve as deeply as you can in a book and so many aspects of the book I thought were short changed or omitted in the film. I think my husband quite enjoyed the film (he had not read the book), my eldest son was over 15 and so he watched it too and he was quite ambivalent about it. I think the film is worth seeing but is perhaps not the best adaptation of book to screen.

I agree Karen. I read the book years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was very interested to see the film and watched it a few months ago. I did enjoy it, but I did feel that the subtleties of the book were somewhat overlooked. The film is worth watching, but (as is often the case) is not a patch on the book.
