Excellent - I found the book in a charity shop yesterday and had to buy it. Ooh eck just remembered I requested it on RISI yesterday and don't know if the swap has been agreed.
I voted for The Kite Runner. My sister read it a while ago and recommended it.
Who suggested the 5 choices? And which book did you vote for?

Another question - when shall we agree to start reading this? Shall we stick to the 22nd August as agreed? Then everyone still has time to take part in The Bell Jar discussions. _________________ Reading: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

voted for animal farm but was chuffed at never let me go cos read michael marshall smith's spares a few years ago, loved that and this looks like it follows similar themes in a more contemporary setting.can't wait to get it -have requested a swap off four people so far for it but there are plenty more who have it-otherwise will be searching charity shops high and low..... |

I am looking forward to reading Never Let Me Go. I nominated The Kite Runner, it has been on my tbr pile for ages. I started reading it after The Bell Jar (ever the optimist ) and I am very glad I did 'cos it is brill! The story has really got me hooked and it is wonderful to read about places like Afghanistan before they became war zones. I will be putting it on my swap list soon. Might write a fuller review when I am finish also. I already swapped Never Let Me Go, because I liked the look of it and even if it hadn't won it was going on my tbr pile any. It will have to go straight to the top now! Look forward to discussing it with you all. _________________ Currently reading: The Human Stain by Philip Roth

I voted for Never Let me Go. I have Animal Farm and The Kite Runner but thought Never Let Me Go would be an interesting read. I was quite lucky becasue I didn't own a copy but spotted one in a charity shop a couple of days ago so I bought it (£2.50). I am reading two books at the moment so it will be a few days before I start it.
Read Bell Jar but haven't left a review yet as I am still thinking about what to put. |

Voted for Animal Farm because it is one of those books that I have always meant to read but never get round to. _________________

| Voted for Never Let Me Go as I bought it a month ago and have meant to read it for ages. I loved the Kite Runner - beautifully written, now it could be a modern classic... then I read the Bookseller of Kabul, another book set in Afghanistan although this one is based on the time a Norwegian journalist, who happens to be female, spent with an Afghani family. It wasn't universally acclaimed but I think it gave some insight into life in Afghanistan - some feel that she, the author, didn't fully understand Afghani culture and the role of women but I think that the latter is very difficult for Westerners to come to terms with - especially if you're female! I have read some of the others but I also thought Never Let Me Go might provide the most topics for discussion. |
