Discuss here your thoughts on the book once you have read it. Did you (not) enjoy it? Anything that struck you or maybe someone else could help if you have a question? We're not really looking for in depth discussions... just tell us what you think of it!
For those who have read the book, please choose a star rating based on how much you liked it.
If you do have something to post that may ruin the plot for others, please remember to use the spoiler function (Details: http://risibookclub.myfreeforum.org/ftopic12.php) _________________ Currently Reading - Want to Play? By P.J Tracy (again)

I read this earlier in the year and really wish I had read it sooner. It's not a long book, which makes it a more accessible classic than some of teh large tomes. I found it very touching, and it was interesting to have a book focus on a male friendship, you get so many books focussing on female friendships, but men are often overlooked. _________________ Books 01.09- 18 (5)

I've just read this in a day (about 100 pages) having watched the film as a teenager at school,
I loved it. It's quite a simple tale in some ways, but the characters and scenes are beautifully described. And though I knew the ending, I'm still really glad I read it.
Highly recommended. |

I don't know about the film versions, except that I watched it in the early 80's and it was a black and white version. Possibly all the more poingnant for the lack of colour
(And if you're like me, you'll need tissues!) |

Really must get hold of a copy of this- it has appeared on the Guardian's 1000 novels everyone must read - in the Crime section ?
Two drifting field workers — Lennie, bull-strong but slow-witted, and his quick, cynical friend and protector, George — pitch up at a ranch in California, where they plan to work up the cash needed to buy a farm of their own. But when Lennie's childishly innocent desire to pet soft things leads him accidentally to kill the pretty wife of the boss's son, George is no longer able to defend him. Steinbeck is at his lyrical best in this Depression-era fable of loneliness, poverty and unrealised dreams.

and I presume it'll also be in the 1,001 books you must read before you die
